Blog Posting Fundamentals

Remember when we were still in the University?

I recall having several subjects with the course number 101. All subjects that have the 101 appended to it means that it was an introductory course or a preparatory course to higher subjects. These were the basic courses that one should take before proceeding to a higher level.

Looking back, I have the memory of some of my classmates attempting to try and take this introductory or prerequisite courses together with the higher courses but were never allowed to, advised as they were of the importance of knowing the basics first.

Now, I know that everybody realizes the importance of these 101 courses. Just like in building a house, one should start by laying the foundation or the groundwork first. Only then can one proceed to erect the structure.

Which is why, if we are writing blog posts, we should have tucked inside our sleeves the fundamentals.

Taking off from Ty Tribble's course on MLM Blog Secre ts Part 2, these are the fundamentals in writing blog posts that one should know:

Fundamentals of a blog post

(1) 150-250 words

This is the standard length of your blog post measured by the number of words. Here's a saying that helped me remember about the desired length: A good speech is just like a lady's dress. It should be long enough to cover everything but short enough to keep it interesting.

(2) Include an image

An image or a picture is already an expression that is worth a thousand words. This could enhance your blog post or reinforce a point that you are driving at.

(3) Always have a category

Saturated as we are with a lot of content on a daily basis, we need some kind of order that could help us sift through various content and just focus on those that we need at a particular time. So, if I am just looking for copywriting blog posts, I would just have to look for the copywriting category and zero in on this topic.

(4) Tags are important

Just like in doing categories, tags are important in labelin g your blog posts. Its major role is in driving traffic to your website akin to good keywords for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes.

(5) SEO and HEO

Once you have the content, the next thing that you should work on is search engine optimization (SEO) and human emotion optimization (HEO). SEO has something to do with keyword research and building, which I have discussed extensively in previous posts. HEO has something to do with appealing to the emotions of your target audience. We will discuss this extensively in the upcoming posts.

Once you have armed yourself with the fundamentals in writing blog posts, you are now ready to begin writing and posting, albeit slowly but surely.

Happy posting!
